My TV time over the past couple of years has mostly been…whatever Ash wants to watch. By the time he goes to bed, the quietness of the house after a long day sounds so delightful that I have no desire to disrupt it. Plus, my eyelids are usually begging to head South. So basically I am a couple of seasons behind on all of my favorite shows except…. Killing Eve. Last year Brian and I were grippingly lured into watching Killing Eve on BBC America. I’m a big fan of the brilliance of Sandra Oh and so when I found out she had a new TV series I told Brian to priority add it to the DVR. It literally is the only show that I watched in its season’s entirety last year. As expected Sandra Oh is everything. She is playing an intuitive spy, aka Eve, that becomes obsessed with finding a very clever, and very stylish, psychopathic assassin. Enters Jodie Comer aka Villanelle aka style eye candy! The first time I noticed noticed her style was in episode two when she wore a pink tulle Molly Goddard dress to an assassin psychology assessment (to determine if she was still in the right frame of mind to kill). “Brian she is wearing a Molly Goddard dress to therapy…!!!” How amusing. I had just finished obsessing over a couple of dresses by Molly Goddard some months prior so I think this was the first time I looked at Villanelle with hearts in my eyes. She wore the dress with some black Balenciaga boots. Yes V!
I could not wait until Season 2 of Killing Eve! It seems like it took forever to return! And in (Season 2) Episode 3 when Villanelle walked into that dark, dusty, suspenseful looking hotel wearing a velvet, horse embroidered, belted Chloe riding blazer, metallic striped, cropped hem, skinny leather pants, and a silk, ruffled neck, orchid colored blouse she persuasively snatched my attention.
And then somewhere along Episode 4, Villanelle stood on a picturesque bridge in Amsterdam meeting her handler, Konstantin, in a pretty, asymmetric, magenta Alexander McQueen draped ruffle blazer, a white tee with red cartoon lips from Anthropologie, and some floral printed pants. Oh ok V.
In the same episode, she sat at a quaint table overlooking a peaceful river dolled up in beautiful over-sized gold (vintage) Christian Lacroix statement earrings, a light pink over-sized blouse (tied at the waist) and a full, floor length, fuchsia colored taffeta skirt writing an endearing message to Eve on the back of a disturbing postcard that had a picture of a painting that she had just saw in a museum. Two men (victims of a psychopath I suppose) hanging upside down from some kind of ladder with their stomachs sliced open and their insides spilling out on the ground beneath them. How charming. She was making her way into my little fashion crazed heart.
I’ve fallen behind in Season two. I was trying to get all caught up last week and finally finished episode 7. I was just sitting there watching the plot unfold and then…she walked into a restaurant to meet with her target Aaron Peel, a guarded (and psychotic slash predator -ish looking) tech mogul and I realized that it was official, I was crushing on her style. She wore a beautiful jacquard kimono, a pink velvet belt, a simple black top, and some embroidered jeans. I was in love. The next day I was literally on a search for a kimono, a velvet belt, a simple top, and some embroidered jeans (on a comparatively very adjusted, very modest budget of course). Do you remember my blog piece from last February, ‘Kimono or No‘? I was on the fence with Kimonos and had no real interest in buying one… until now. That’s how you know true love right?! It changes your mind about things!
An assassin with a fashion fetish… genius! The beautiful silk robes, the Phillip Lim floral bomber, the emerald green satin Jason Wu coat, the black breathtaking high-necked couture Alexander McQueen gown, the velvet DVF jumpsuit she wore in the middle of (Season 2) Episode 7, all of the leather and fur and even those ill fitting blue pop art printed pajamas she stole from the boy in the hospital….genius V. She dresses “extra”, “excessive” in the middle of the day for no reason at all and I’m all for it! Can’t wait to see what she will wear next.
So tell me, who is your TV style crush right now?
