Want to know a secret? I’ve been called a fashionista a time or two (though I don’t consider myself one). I love fashion and expression through style, but (confession) I’m not one of the girlies who diligently stay atop of the latest trends or who has the latest and greatest designer bag. I’m often late to the party while the diligent, proud fashionistas are off to the next one. I usually stumble upon things—shoes, dresses, earrings…trends—and if it’s an instant love connection with said shoes, dress, or trend, I embrace it. This happened when I purchased my first pair of rain boots! I’m not entirely sure what made me buy some after all these forty years. I remember picking Ash up from school earlier this year on a downcast day and seeing another mom standing at the door waiting for her kiddo in some dark-colored wellies and thinking how practical and a little stylish it was for such a day.
But that’s not the first time I’ve ever seen a rain boot, so I’m not sure what finally made me say I should get some. So, I bought a pair of black Hunter rain boots, the short ones, and when I slipped them on, I thought, “Wow, I like these!” And then I bought what I thought was a pair of white ones, but this time the tall ones (which I generally am cautious about because some knee-length boots accentuate my bowed legs weirdly). They were more a gray hue, but I kept them because, go figure, I liked them too (they remind me of that subtle gray of the skies on a day when the rain is light). And now, you might catch me in rain boots, even if there’s a slight chance of rain or if the day is gray with a little chill in the air. Because, haha, I like to look practical, comfortable, and stylish on gloomy (and even not so gloomy) days! Wellie, look at that.
