I’ve always been very minimal with my accessorizing. Most of the time I tend to go for a “less is more” aesthetic. It’s what I’m most comfortable in.
Hence my collection of belts, purses, shoes, scarves, and hats (save for baseball caps, I tend to buy baseball caps easily) is quite… small. So, you will see me wear the same black BCBG belt over and over and over again (yes girl, I’m going to get my money’s worth out of it!). The thing is, even with a limited accessories assemblage, you still can beautifully change the mood of your outfit. Every time Brian and I are invited to an event and I make any kind of reference to having to buy something, he nearly always says, “just go shopping in your closet.” It used to annoy me (because duh Brian, I don’t have anything to wear) but then it actually started making me become more creative with finding new ways to wear old things. One way to do that is, of course, accessorizing! So, for this post, every single thing you see (except the Off-White belt which I bought earlier this year) is at least five years old. Most of it is probably closer to ten years old. These are some of my favorite accessories that you will see me adding to any outfit to give it new life!
With shopping in your closet and playing dress up, you can find different ways to wear the same old thing and make it a whole mood! Like this colorful BCBG dress…
Look #1… Dressy with a little edge…
With this look, I double wrapped my Off-White belt around my waist, threw on my oldie but goodie black BCBG wedge heeled sandals, and put on my favorite diamond studs (a gift from Brian many moons ago). Add a black fold-over clutch like this one and you are good to go!
Look #2… Dressy and elegant…
Simple. …Over-sized colorful chandelier statement earrings and gold Nine West sandals (I got them off the clearance rack at DSW). I first wore these earrings (about five years ago) with an all teal colored dress, to an opera in Chicago. The teal in this dress made me reach for them again. That and the matching coral specks. No belt.
Look #3… Dressy but relaxed…
Gold threader earrings, a wood bead bracelet, strappy neutral sandal (Max Studio), and a wide neutral colored elastic belt with gold buckle gives a great dressed up on vacation vibe.
Cheers to shopping in your closet and being creative! What are some of your favorite accessory pieces? Would love to hear! Xo
