Let’s talk a little about home decor again! Specifically let’s talk about statement sofas. My purple sofa was one of the first pieces I bought after we moved into our home seven and a half years ago. We brought the sofa we had purchased four years prior (for our condo) with us, but it was a cushy slipcovered sofa with a matching over-sized chair and ottoman that worked way better for our basement space.
I had a different vision for our upstairs living and family rooms. I can’t take all the credit for picking this lovely piece though. Brian actually had input. His two cents was that we should have some color somewhere in the house. I tend to be a black and white, minimalistic kind of person when it comes to home decor; thus my white walls, white carpet and black and white wall art. So, initially I had a few reservations about this idea of a “splash of color” invading my neutral space.
Then I came across this beautiful deep purple chenille “Vangogh” sofa at Arhaus and thought “now this could work”! (Side note: I am obsessed with Arhaus. Like, for real). The tufting and brass nail head trim… **insert multiple heart eyed emojis***. Six years later, it is still serving the depth and sophistication that made me fall in love with it in the first place. Which leads me to three reasons why I am all for statement sofas.
They make a statement! This is the obvious reason right? A yellow, blue, green, red, or an atypical silhouette, fabric or printed sofa can bring so much character and confidence to a room! You know the wow factor your outfit can get from adding a stunning pair of statement earrings?! It’s like that, except for your house.
I have received so many compliments on my purple sofa! I love that it is one of the first things you see when you come into our home!
They have longevity potential! Like I’ve said, I’ve had this sofa for roughly six years now and it’s still going strong. I don’t mean only as in durability (though this is a plus and another reason why I love Arhaus furniture), I mean as in style and satisfaction too. How can a purple sofa ever get boring? With anything I buy, furniture included, I prefer the sentiment of Vivienne Westwood, buy less, choose well, make it last!
They require little else! If you are like me and tend to shy away from maximalist designing, that’s ok! My living room has five pieces of furniture in it and it looks complete. That’s including the lamps on each side of the sofa. I loved that I didn’t have to get bogged down trying to make this room fabulous. The sofa took the limelight and did the work for me. Decorating was quite easy. A black leather side chair (piece number 4), and some furry and beaded toss pillows! Done! (The fifth piece of furniture is a black baby grand piano). I apologize that I didn’t take a complete room shot; I’ll make a note to do that next time!
Arhaus still has the VanGogh collection. The in stock color has changed to “vance indigo,” which is a gorg deep blue. Blue is my favorite color so I am feeling some type of way about this, but I know Brian will give me all kinds of crazy looks if I tell him I want to change our perfectly fine sofa because it is now offered in my favorite color! So, it’s me and my purple sofa until further notice!
