Funny how your childhood lends itself to lasting affections, even influencing your adulthood interior design choices. Somewhere in the span of my formative years, I had a white metal framed daybed that I loved. I shared the upstairs space of our family’s bungalow with my sister. I remember my daybed sitting in a corner against the lacquered wood-paneled walls, blocking the wooden double doors of a shelved storage closet, making the closet nonfunctional. The rest of the daybed frame sat in front of a wood balcony structure overlooking the stairs to the room.
I remember the girly peach bedding (and matching curtains), which I eventually petitioned to be changed to white. So you see I’ve always been obsessed with a white palette and designing my own space. I remember the slight difficulty in making up my bed. The maneuvering of the mattress and tucking of the covers to get everything right.
When Brian and I got married and bought our two-bedroom condo, that second bedroom slash office space would have a daybed because, after years of having one as a little girl, I have a thing for daybeds. A black iron wrought framed daybed from my favorite furniture store, Arhaus (pictured above), was perfect for the room. And when we moved into our house, that daybed came with us and still occupies one of the bedrooms, because a daybed comes in handy in a nursery.
So if you are unaware of the functionality, charm, and even chicness of a daybed occupying some of your space, I’m here to put it on your radar. It’s a sofa; it’s a bed. If you add a trundle, it’s another bed. It’s basically a great piece of furniture that can be a lasting affection! Xo
Restoration Hardware has a gorgeous selection of daybeds!
I’m digging the Three’s Company vibe of the daybeds from Anthropologie.
And don’t forget Crate and Barrel! I bought an ivory-colored daybed cover and matching shams from Crate and Barrel for my Arhaus daybed when I first got it.
What about you? What do you have a thing for?
