It’s Monslay again. On the one hand, I’m so grateful for my career and a brand new week full of possibilities. On the other, I want to take these heels off, throw on a onesie, and crawl back into bed until June. But that’s not an option, so I’ll focus on the former.
I got new tires just in the nick of time because it was a very wintery weekend. And on Friday to kick it off were the birthdays of some pretty incredible people. Michelle Obama, who I adore. (Read my post about that). Happy birthday my forever FLOTUS.
Renee Pitter. Who I also adore. I’m so sad I missed her birthday festivities, but I wish her another fabulous trip around the sun. If you haven’t read my “Every Woman” feature of her, do so now (here’s the link)! It was my most read post last year! She’s bomb. Happy Birthday, friend!
…I remember one time I saw an ad in a magazine and it said, ‘there are ideal standards of beauty and you are not it.’ And I ripped that out and I put it on my wall. And ever since then I have been very committed to filling myself with images of non-traditional, or what would be considered non-traditional beauty. It took me going to college to, to like, really lean into my hair and the state that it is. I figured that I’m going to keep chasing this standard of beauty that’s not realistic so I might as well create my own. So that’s how I conquered it was to just lean into it. And that goes for everything. That has to do with my body. My booty not big enough. We’re starting a little booty’s movement! I don’t know if you qualify Amyre but feel free to join (lol). Like all of that. I’m just going to celebrate whatever I am. That’s what I’m going to celebrate. I’m going to fill my Instagram feed with that and just soak it up until the rest of it doesn’t matter…
And in keeping with beautiful words, lately, I have had an obsession with pinning inspiring quotes on ‘writing.’ Here is one of my faves:
The idea is to write it so that people hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart. -Maya Angelou
I’ve also been ogling the gorgeous creations of Rosie Assoulin on IG for a while now. She is currently outside of my budget, but those voluminous statement sleeves and just a particular je ne sais quoi make me double-tap every time I see her sashaying down my timeline.
The ‘Union Slip‘ from Thistle and Spire is now on my wish list. I want to add this set as well. And this one too! 😉
Reyna Noreiga. Shades of (magic) brown against life evoking colors. The hair. The earrings. Her art makes me happy. She’s my new fave.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Because it’s Martin Luther King Jr. day and the truth of those words is ever resounding.
With that in mind, since the 2020 presidential race is headed our way, here is a helpful quiz if you are pondering which democratic candidate aligns most with you.
Back to work, Xo
P.S. A powerful speech from MLK…
