Father’s Day is tomorrow! So, what should we do for the wonderful men in our lives? Last year I bought my dad a nice suit from Bachrach. He wears a suit every Sunday to church so I thought, “Let’s keep him dapper.” The year before that, I bought him a Bulova watch. He loves watches and has always worn a watch, so I thought “Let’s keep building his collection.” Since I have covered the typical “dad gifts” over the past couple of years for Father’s day, I was a little bit stumped on what to get him this year.
My dad is a simple guy who doesn’t like a lot of fuss (but enjoys it when we do it anyway). I called him and asked, “Daddy if there is anything in the world you could have for Father’s day, what would you want it to be?” His response, “I would like to eat, watch T.V, and to get some rest.” Like I said, he is a simple guy. Ok daddy, after church, dinner on me and then back home for some R & R!
Now, on to Brian. For Mother’s day, I got a card “from Ash” that was absolutely wonderful! It was handmade with a sweet poem on the inside that read,
Each line was written in alternating blue and pink crayon. It was lovely. Needless to say I was quite impressed with the ghostwriter! How am I supposed to top that?! So I asked, “Brian if there is anything in the world you could have for Father’s day, what would you want it to be?” His response, “just to have a good day.” Ok Brian, I can oblige *kissy face emoji”.
Is this all dads want for Father’s Day? Rest? A good day? This past week, I decided to take a poll. I asked some fathers, “Name 3 things that you would really want for Father’s day?” or “What would be the perfect Father’s Day for you?” Here are some of the responses:
- “Time with my children, genuine appreciation from my children and rest…”
- “A good movie and time with the family…”
- “I don’t really want anything other than safety for my family…”
- “Stay at home and watch movies, a drone for photography, a surprise of something I really want (a new car, dream vacation…)”
- “Some rest… And to win the Powerball…”
- “Just to have a peaceful weekend…”
If you are still struggling with trying to find the “perfect” gift for your dad, no worries, the “perfect” gift may be simpler than you think! Let him put his feet up for the day (rest) and watch a good movie with him! Oh yeah, and bring a Powerball ticket!
To all of the fathers, have a happy (and chill) Father’s Day!

I think you got it right! Most fathers just want to relax, maybe have some good food and relax. I believe most fathers feel a sense of accomplishment when everything is taken care of and all is well and they can just rest and know that they’ve done a great job taking care of their family.

Nice!!! Men are simple and like to keep it that way. Love, food, health, cars! Lol (the first three are staples for most men)! I think the men you surveyed hit the nail on the head too. A big surprise that’s unexpected, something needed/useful, or a relaxing day goes a lonnnngggg way! -Marv ✌🏽
