The last time I purchased a dress from a Target Collaboration was when it was Carly Cushnie X Target. The tri-color midi is still hanging in my closet. I wasn’t head over heels in love with the Cushnie dress (if I’m honest). My fancy was more so the idea of having a little piece of Cushnie style via Targé. And if I am being honest again, I did not have remarkably high hopes for this Diane von Furstenberg collaboration. Do I love DVF? Yes. How many times will I buy an iconic wrap dress? Yes, please. Did I also (not too long ago) buy one of her printed wrap jumpsuits? Yes. But the hesitation at being full-blown excited was what I felt about Cushnie. I would be more in love with the idea than the actual pieces.
And this is not to diss any designer X Target collaborations (especially Cushnie) because the concept is beautiful; I am just being transparent about my typical reservations with them. I anticipated that certain je nais se quois of DVF would be missing. But I was pleasantly surprised, and I liked that. I went to Target a couple of days ago to pick up some plastic spoons and came out with a beautiful wrap dress for fifty dollars. (I like that for me.) The fit is comparable to my other DVF dresses. The fabric quality is outstanding and comfortable (and machine washable). And let’s repeat, machine washable, because I literally just picked up my purple DVF wrap dress from the dry cleaners last week, so there’s that. Do I think the fit of that purple wrap dress is more of a fit that I prefer than my new black and white printed one? Yes. But barely, and it was over ten times the cost, so there’s that. (I tried on the printed green ginkgo set, but the pattern was too much for me.)
Overall, I think, so far, this collaboration has been my favorite. It was well done. Even if I did not like a print or a cut of something, it was still well done. For that reason, I’m giving it five stars. What pieces have you tried?
