A couple of weeks ago, I went back to Georgia to see my grandma. While visiting my Aunt’s house, the one who gave me my middle name, she pulled out this rust-colored dress she had recently found while cleaning out my grandma’s house. She tells me she wore this dress in 1974. It was her first store-bought dress! Before this dress, my grandma, her mother, had made all of her dresses. I’ve learned that my grandma was basically a legend of a seamstress. I also learned that she was also quite a fashionista. And with that bit of knowledge of my genealogy, I understand myself better.
Of course, I asked my Auntie Ann if I could have this sentimental piece of fashion because I saw the dress was my size. It was super cute and summer dress season is upon us. She kindly obliged my request. So here I am wearing vintage Dorothy Ann–total proof that my Aunt has always been a hottie with timeless style. I’ll be wearing this dress all summer.
And the moral of the story—a hot girl summer vibe may be right in the back of your favorite Aunt’s closet! Thanks Auntie!! Love you!!
I styled this vintage piece with Cult Gaia earrings (these wooden ones are also equally fabulous), a brown shoulder purse from House of Want, and some old Alice and Olivia blue pumps (similar).
